Find Art.
Find Berlin.
Design of an art discovery app
ABOUT
White Walls is an app developed for art enthusiasts to discover personalized art content and explore the Berlin art scene.
THE PROBLEM
User interviews and surveys revealed that art lovers struggle to access resources that help them discover and engage more deeply with art.
Participants also expressed frustration at missing local events that match their tastes due to poor visibility and timing.
THE SOLUTION
To make art more accessible, we built an app that offers tailored content with meaningful context and timely recommendations for nearby events.
While the core experience is personalized, the app also introduces users to new perspectives beyond their usual preferences.
ONBOARDING
The app's onboarding flow informs users about its basic functionalities and includes a quiz designed to personalize the app's content to individual preferences.
EXPLORING
On the home page, users can view the curated Daily Art Pick, while the Explore tab offers a mix of fresh, new art as well as pieces related to their preferences for a personalized and diverse art experience.
EVENTS
In the Events tab, users can discover local events related to their preferences. Once at the venue, they can check in directly by clicking the QR code icon in the bottom navigation.
REWARDING
Users can redeem free museum tickets they've earned through check-ins directly in the app's shop. This allows them to enjoy the benefits of their engagement and explore more cultural experiences.

To better understand our users, we researched their behaviors, preferences, and challenges related to discovering and engaging with art.
This includes:
motivations

social aspects
role of technology.
As much as I love finding new art on social media, I often feel like I'm missing out on the full story.
I feel like personalised recommendations are sometimes hindering my exploration of new things.
I often miss out on local events, it's so hard to stay informed about what's happening nearby.
USER STORY
As an art enthusiast, I want to use my free time wisely to learn the stories behind artworks, discover new artists, and receive recommendations for art-related places locally, so that I can enhance my understanding and appreciation of art.
IDEATION
Since our survey showed that 93% of users engage with art through technology and 81% by attending events, creating an app felt like the most relevant choice.
It allowed us to merge digital discovery with real-world art experiences in a format that reflects how users already interact with art.

TAKEWAYS & LEARNINGS
CHALLENGE OF LEADING A PROJECT
This was my first time leading a project, and at the start, I struggled with balancing the need to consider the team’s voices while being decisive. This experience taught me the importance of assertive leadership in driving progress and earning the team’s confidence.
UNDERSTANDING PROBLEMS BEFORE SOLUTIONS
Initially, my strong preconceived ideas hindered my ability to see the big picture and fully analyze the problem. This project taught me the value of thoroughly understanding user needs and avoiding premature solutions to develop more effective and user-centered designs.
